MCTI Scholarships

Each year Muhlenberg Community Theater, Inc. awards college scholarships to local young people that have an interest in theatre and have participated in MCTI productions.  Individual scholarships are in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00).  The number of scholarships awarded on a yearly basis will be determined by the amount of profit generated from the sale of performance tee shirts and from donations made directly to the scholarship fund.

The winner(s) will be selected as follows

1) The applicant must be a graduating senior from an accredited high school (or has completed a curriculum or  course of home study sufficient for admission to a college) who has participated as a member of the cast or crew of an MCTI Production and has applied for enrollment to a college or university of his or her choice, and must be entering that institution in the year of application for the scholarship.

AN EXCEPTION MAY BE MADE FOR A GRADUATING SENIOR WHO IS ENTERING EITHER VOLUNTARY OR INVOLUNTARY MILITARY SERVICE AFTER GRADUATION.

2)  The completed application must be returned to the scholarship committee by April 1.  Winner(s) will be chosen by the selection committee and notified by certified mail on or before May 30 of the application year.  Awards will be made payable to the college or university designated by each winner. In the event a winner does not enter college as planned, MCTI shall hold the award for one year in the winner's name, after which the award of the scholarship shall be revoked and the proceeds returned to the scholarship fund.

WHERE THE APPLICANT IS TO ENTER THE MILITARY SERVICE UPON GRADUATION, MCTI MAY AWARD THE SCHOLARSHIP AND HOLD THE PAYMENT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP TO THE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY UPON THE APPLICANT COMPLETING HIS OR HER MILITARY SERVICE.   IN THIS INSTANCE, THE APPLICANT MUST NOTIFY MCTI OF HIS OR HER ACCEPTANCE TO A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF HIS OR HER RELEASE FROM MILITARY SERVICE.

3)  The applicant must have an overall "B" average in high school work. The committee may consider an applicant with  less than an overall "B" average who otherwise qualifies if that applicant has a valid documented handicap or circumstance  which impacts on that student's grade point average, and the student otherwise demonstrates an ability to benefit from the opportunity to attend college.

4) Leadership, extra-curricular activities, ACT and SAT scores, and theater experience will be considered in the selection process.  MCTI does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, sex or national origin.

5) The decision of the selection committee is final.
